Candidate Challenge: John McCain

Fourteen down, two to go! Senator John McCain became the latest presidential candidate to respond to our Candidate Challenge and chat with us about the state of our voting system. This time it was at Southern New Hampshire University at the latest MTV/MySpace Presidential Dialogue.
The Senator said he “would be glad to do anything to stimulate increased participation,” including something that we’ve heard from other candidates: laying the responsibility on the candidates themselves to motivate more folks to vote.
Interestingly, Senator McCain, the co-author of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act didn’t, however, think that expanding the Clean Elections public financing system of his home state Arizona to a national level would necessarily be a good idea. Regarding a national Election Day holiday, McCain was noncommittal but said “whatever gets people out” was worth taking a look at. It was a quick interview on his way out the door… so we’ll be sure to follow up and monitor the Senator’s position on election reform closely.

McCain Feingold was one of the worst pieces of legislation ever passed. Ron Paul has done more to get out the vote than anyone else. Wait until you see the turnout for the primaries.

He is a senator in my state and up to the November CNN debates, I liked him.
His ignorance in history and warhawkish attitude is a turnoff and I will not vote to re-elect him.

Pathetic response. This guy obviously does not care about this subject. He just blurred out some standard formulas and walked onto the bus. He probably could not care less about the fact lobbys and campaign funding needs serious regulations. This guy is totally out of it.
