We caught up with Mike Huckabee in Iowa last month and he answered the Why Tuesday? Candidate Challenge. But tonight he became the first candidate to respond to the Challenge by way of 10Questions.com, where our Challenge was one of the winning questions.

Unfortunately, Governor Huckabee doesn’t specifically say if he thinks our voting system is broken. He reiterates what he told me in Iowa, which is that he’s open to changing the day we vote. He says we “made a good point” about the inconvenience of Tuesday.

Huckabee also says that “in most all the states people can vote without having to get some kind of particular excuse up to two weeks before the Election Day itself.” In fact, there’s only early voting or no-excuse absentee voting in 35 of our 50 states, according to Pew’s electionline.org.

We’re giving all candidates who answered our Challenge in the field - and that’s everyone except Senators Clinton and Edwards, and Governor Richardson - to submit a formal response just as their aforementioned colleagues have. Governor Huckabee becomes the first candidate to submit a formal response to follow up on our earlier encounter, and we thank him for doing so.
