Obama’s MySpace Delegates Making Waves Offline

MySpace

This election season has seen the leading Presidential candidates adopt the tools of new media at encouraging — even exciting — rates. The key to what makes this round different from previous cycles is new media in general and social networking in particular empower all people, not just the pros. So even where a candidate affirmatively takes action, his/her supporters can go miles beyond. Ron Paul’s supporters have been Exhibit A in this case, but as the campaign season marches on, we see more and more examples of the virtuous cycle social networks facilitate.

The latest example is exceptional. Senator Obama’s campaign created a place on MySpace for his Washington state supporters to show their support and organize for the caucuses. Those efforts led to several young people not only participating in the process, but getting themselves elected precinct delegates, and then telling stories of their efforts back on MySpace. (more…)

iChat Interview: Lee Brenner of MySpace IMPACT

MySpace IMPACT

NEW YORK, NEW YORK — Earlier this month we brought you the results of the MySpace IMPACT Presidential Primary poll. One stat that we found particularly interesting here: 11,453 votes were cast for making Election Day a national voting holiday in order to increase voter turnout. That was 41.26% of the vote for that question.

Today I had a chance to interview, live via iChat, Lee Brenner, the Director of MySpace IMPACT, who was in Washington, D.C., about the results of the poll and what New Media means to this election cycle. The video is after the jump. (more…)

Why Tuesday? in TIME… kinda

TIME

The good news: looks like Why Tuesday? has hit the big-time… almost.

I was reading the December 24th issue of Time magazine and noticed that as part of the cover story yours truly and WT? Director of Photography Tom Macker are featured in a photo as we interview Senator John McCain.

We were at the MTV/MySpace presidential dialogue in Manchester, New Hampshire to ask Senator McCain to respond to the Why Tuesday? Candidate Challenge, which he did.

Check out the photo, and a tiny bit of bad news, after the jump. (more…)
