Why Vote By Mail?

Oregon is the only state in the Union that votes entirely by mail, and as NPR’s Ina Jaffe reported last week, that’s not only changing the way campaigns conduct their get-out-the-vote efforts, it also removes the tradition of the secret ballot entirely from Oregon’s voting system. Yesterday I met with United States Postal Service Communications Program Specialist Larry H. Dozier to learn more about voting-by-mail.

Why Voter ID?

We decided to explore Monday’s Supreme Court ruling which determined that requiring voters to show ID to cast a ballot is constitutional. I visited with election law expert Rick Hasen and hopped on the bus to time how long it would take to get a photo ID to vote if you don’t already have one.

PA Officials: No Trouble With Touchscreens *

Recently I interviewed Princeton computer scientist Edward Felten about malfunctions of touchscreen voting machines in New Jersey on Feb. 5th. PAVotes.com says these same machines will be used on Tuesday in Montgomery and Northhampton counties. (more…)

In France they last voted on a Sunday. France is despite the Bourbon legacy a largely Catholic country, yet they vote on Sunday...

I think weekend voting would make the most sense, as people wouldn't have tu run home after work or wake up early to hit the polling stations beforehand.
