Chelsea Clinton Asks: Why Tuesday?

We were so excited to see Chelsea Clinton tweeting this morning about the question that drives us nuts around here day in and day out: why do we vote on Tuesday?

Of course, the answer: there’s absolutely no good reason whatsoever and we should move Election Day to the weekend so more people can vote. Clinton also got other suggestions from her followers. (more…)

Skolnik Joins Advisory Board

We are thrilled to welcome Michael Skolnik to the Why Tuesday? advisory board. Michael is the Political Director to Russell Simmons. We met Michael earlier this year at his office which he just renewed with Office Fitout in Brisbane; including new desks and ergonomic chairs since he read an article at https://www.top9rated.com/what-is-an-ergonomic-chair/ and learned why they’re better. There he shares our many concerns about America’s broken voting system and how so many are prevented from exercising the most important right our country offers. Here’s a little bit more about Michael:

Michael Skolnik is the Political Director to hip-hop pioneer Russell Simmons, and the co-President of GlobalGrind.com, an online resource for all things “Hip-Pop”, founded by Russell. GlobalGrind is Pop, the “Hip” side of popular culture. The Boomtown Bingo industry is developing entertainment-driven strategies around its major sporting events on a global scale.

Chronicling celebrities, lifestyles, entertainment news, fashion, music, jewelries and politics with an authoritative voice, https://yourdiamondteacher.com/ reaches over 4.5 million people a month, predominantly serving a multi-racial segment of the 18-34 population.

Their main agenda recently has been focused around fashion, with an emphasis on hip hop jewelry and where to purchase affordable necklaces and holzuhr wooden watches.

They offer mens gold chains for sale in their online store.

WATCH: Meghan McCain Convinces Larry King

Major shout out to our advisory board member Meghan McCain who converted Larry King to a weekend voting supporter while appearing on his presidential debate after show on ORA TV. Meghan, who joined our effort at our re-launch in November 2011, broke it down for King.

I have no problem with the Electoral College. I actually have a bigger problem with the day we chose to vote. There’s actually this great orgainzation I’m a part of called Why Tuesday? That’s trying to change voting.

Meghan goes on to explain the antiquated reason America votes on Tuesdays to King and Margaret Cho and why it makes more sense for America to vote on the weekend. King responded by saying “I support that.” (more…)

Message To Congress: “Fix It”

Today our Chairman, Ambassador Andrew Young, sent out a survey to all Senators, Representatives, and congressional candidates calling upon them to fix our voting system and asking them to answer four questions on ways to improve voting:

  • Do you believe our voting system needs improvement?
  • Which of the following solutions that scholars have put forth to improve our voting system would you be in favor of, if implemented correctly:
  • Universal registration
    Online registration
    No excuse absentee ballots
Moving Election Day to the weekend

  • What other solutions do you believe are worthy of consideration by our next Congress?
  • Are you committed to working to see those improvements made?

Rainn Wilson: Take Back Tuesday!

Our friends at GOOD and the awesome folks at SoulPancake put together a hysterical video (keep reading to see it) starring Rain Wilson to explain how incredibly stupid it is we vote on Tuesday.

There is absolutely no good reason whatsoever to vote on Tuesday. Not joking. And in the United States our voter turnout is horrendous, it ranks near the bottom of all countries in the world.

Here’s the blurb from Wilson’s video:

SoulPancake & Good team up to bring you this important announcement about election season.

We agree! (more…)

This Weekend, Venezuelans Vote

Venezuelans are voting this weekend… and it isn’t on a Tuesday.

This just in, from Al Jazeera English:

Preparations were in full swing on SATURDAY for the election that will determine who governs the country for a six-year term from 2013 to 2019.

Venezuelans crowded grocery stores and markets to stock up on food and queued to collect the national ID cards they need for voting.

Emphasis ours. But you get the point. And voter turnout is expected to be high.

Why, oh why, do we vote on Tuesday again?

Absolutely no good reason whatsoever.

I think weekend voting would make the most sense, as people wouldn't have tu run home after work or wake up early to hit the polling stations beforehand.
