This morning I went to The Grove in Los Angeles where HBO, promoting their new film RECOUNT, set up the actual Votomatic Florida voting machines used in the controversial 2000 Presidential Election, complete with butterfly ballots and hanging chads, so that people can judge for themselves whether they could have effectively cast their ballot. RECOUNT premieres May 25 on HBO.

I work at a newspaper in South Florida and lived through the mess. We reproduced the actual ballot to let readers see if they would have voted correctly. Try out out, if you dare.

That’s so crazy, Idegroot! I voted for Gore, but only because I knew about the problem.. and can see how someone could easily cast their ballot for Buchanan, especially if they read the instructions (which I didn’t).
